NEED IS NOT CANCELLED.
COMPASSION IS NOT CANCELLED.
HOPE IS NOT CANCELLED.
Dear Partner,
Since March, our industry has undergone unprecedented change. I think it’s safe to say we have been tested in unexpected ways. And through it all, we remain strong together. Perhaps your team is working around the clock to ensure Canadians can shop for the products they love and need at our stores, or maybe you’re providing services or expertise to help us be incredibly nimble. Our team has asked you to go above and beyond – and today I am asking for your generosity.
There continues to be uncertainties ahead of us as the COVID-19 situation evolves. With our teammates and partners focused on feeding Canadians and keeping everyone safe, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the August 2020 Sobeys Charity Golf Classic. It’s an annual event that we all look forward to, but we simply can’t put additional strain on our teammates and valued partners with so much work and so many unknowns still ahead of us. We’ll gather together again one day soon. But until then, we can’t forget about our charitable partners. They need us now more than ever.
Although we can’t come together in person, I ask that you continue to support the event. Next week you will receive an email from our team with a request to renew your 2019 sponsorship level. The email will contain a link to our official Charity Golf Classic site where you can register your company and pledge your support. With no overhead to hold an event, we can give back one hundred percent of the funds raised. Our goal is to raise $1 million for charities working hard on the frontlines to help our most vulnerable neighbours – groups like local food banks and meal programs, Special Olympics Canada, children’s hospitals and school nutrition programs.
Beyond the Charity Golf Classic, we are committed to increasing our support to address the emergency community needs because of COVID-19. On March 23 we launched our Community Action Fund and empowered our more than 1,500 grocery and Lawtons retail locations to help. Our store teams know their communities best, and because of their leadership, millions of dollars have been infused into local communities. In the weeks and months to come we will continue to do all we can.
I hope you will pledge your support. Thanks for standing beside us to keep our communities safe, fed and healthy.
Sincerely,
Michael Medline
President and CEO
